Much of the time, when I’m at home, I have nature sounds playing in the background. I particularly love the sound of the sea (I wish I lived right by the ocean, so I could hear it all the time). The sound of the sea, feels immersive. It’s like breathing. It’s life. Ceaselessly unique, powerful and beautiful.
Music has always been a very important part of my life. I grew up mainly in the 70s and 80s so the sounds of those times, are the soundtrack to my earliest memories.
Although these are not necessarily artists I listen to now, through my parents I remember artists like Elkie Brooks (my Mum loved Pearls), The Carpenters, Abba, Queen, Status Quo, Thin Lizzy, 10cc, ELO.
I also spent a lot of my childhood watching covers bands in pubs and clubs (as well as later playing those covers myself). There were lots of those 50s, 60s & 70s standards played.
In my early teens I got heavy in rock and metal. I listened to bands like Black Sabbath (still one of my favourites), Iron Maiden, Guns N Roses. I grew out of much of that though. My formative years were spent listening to 90s music but more the trip hop, ambient kind.
Sometimes I find it difficult to listen to music because of the emotions I experience intensely. There’s a lot that makes me cry. I do love it when music gives me goosebumps though!
